Individual and Family Counseling

Veterans often continue to experience readjustment problems, even years after they leave the military. Professional staff members provide counseling to help veterans deal with stress, anger and other problems that complicate their daily lives. Because family life is often affected by the veteran's behavior, family counseling can provide an opportunity for family members to understand and support the adjustment process.

Educational, Vocational and Employment Counseling

The Veterans' Resource Center can provide referrals to public and private programs that are available to veterans, and can also help veterans who seek employment counseling, GED (General Educational Development) preparation, job training and educational counseling.

Drug and Alcohol Counseling

The Veterans' Resource Center offers out-patient treatment for those with alcohol and drug problems, as well as others affected by the disease. The program provides drug and alcohol education to children, families and significant others.

All Veterans including Vietnam, Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan

A significant number of male and female veterans continue to experience psychological and social distress in civilian life. The Veterans' Resource Center works closely with veterans' organizations, individual veterans and family members to facilitate a satisfactory post-war adjustment to civilian life through a broad range of counseling, outreach and referral services.

Assistance with Veterans' Entitlements

Veterans' benefits are often a concern for the veteran. The staff at the Veteran's Resource Center will help negotiate the red tape involved in seeking entitlements and "walk-through" the process with the client. Representative problems for which veterans might seek assistance can include:

  • Discharge Upgrades
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Benefits
  • Healthcare and Disability Benefits
  • Education Benefits
  • Agent Orange Benefits

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Counseling

Qualified staff is available to treat male and female veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), resulting from combat and other service-connected traumatic experiences. Some common symptoms of PTSD are:

  • Intense anxiety
  • Depression
  • Isolation
  • Uncontrollable anger
  • Survivor guilt
  • Hyper-alertness
  • Flashbacks
  • Recurrent traumatic memories
  • Drug and alcohol use
