Me Gusta
Family and Children’s Association sponsors a program that teaches unskilled women how to make pocketbooks, jewelry and aprons. The group is called "Me Gusta" and is made up of moms whose children are enrolled in our Co-op Nursery School program.
The women meet every Thursday to learn new skills that include how to use a sewing machine, read patterns and handle jewelry-making tools. Watch this video to meet some of the members of the group. The ultimate goal of the members is to learn a skill that will allow them to obtain employment and move toward independence for themselves and their families. Another outcome of the program is the social network that is created for these women who have previously found themselves disconnected.
The Me Gusta moms have created beautiful, handmade items that are available for purchase (no two are exactly alike). Click here to view catalogue.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice and Anton Newspapers’ Editor in Chief Angela Anton commend the efforts of the Me Gusta Moms to work towards independence for themselves and their families.
If you wish to purchase one of these items, please contact Nicole Rosow via email or telephone (516) 483-3776, ext 401.
