Little Library

Little LibraryThe Little Library is a warm, inviting space that houses a collection of books and activities for children of all ages. It was created through the hard work and dedication of staff and volunteers, a monetary donation from the Gerstman family and countless donations of books from across Long Island. The Little Library is open to nursery school, pre-school and after-school students involved in our educational programs. To see a short video of a recent story time, click here.

Help Share the Love of Reading

The library is run by volunteers and supported by donations. If you wish to help the library and spend time with the children in our literacy programs, please consider getting involved by:

  1. Volunteering to read to the children. Ms. Sheerin welcomes help by volunteers who can give one or two mornings per week.

  2. Donating items for the library including:
  • Large reseal-able bags. Each book is placed into a reseal-able back for the journey from school to home to keep it in pristine condition. A continuous supply of large reseal-able is needed.
  • Reading readiness software: There are many products on the market that teach reading on the computer and the librarian would like to introduce this learning tool to the children.
  • Bilingual books: Hard-cover books featuring both English and Spanish are an important part of the library's collection.
  • Financial support: If you wish to help support the Little Library, please donate online by visiting www.familyandchildrens.org/donate or send a check marked "Little Library" to Family & Children’s, 100 E. Old Country Road, Mineola, NY 11501. Any donation to this effort would be greatly appreciated!Patricia Pryor-Bonica
