Information & assistance to individuals 60 years of age and older to enable them to resolve financial problems, manage their money more effectively, and participate in housing counseling with specific focus on reverse mortgages.

- Negotiate with your lender for short-term relief and a long-term solution
- Help you understand your options and avoid foreclosure
Financial Organizing:
- Organize important papers and contacts
- Organize expenses if you have to live on less income
- Explore options to increase income
Solving Financial Problems:
- Credit card debt
- Mortgage delinquencies
- Property tax arrears
Complete Tax Forms:
- Federal and State income taxes
- Nassau County Partial Property Tax Exemption
- New York State Tax Rebate (IT214)
- New York School Tax Assistance Relief (STAR)
Bill Payer Assistance
Who will receive bill payer assistance?
- Seniors who are able to make responsible decisions about their finances
What services are provided?
- Sorting and organizing bills
- Setting up a monthly income/expense budget
- Balancing the checkbook
- Writing out checks for you to sign
- Referrals for other services, if needed
What are program safeguards?
- Volunteer bill payers are trained and monitored by Family and Children's Association
- Monthly reports of all transactions are submitted to the agency
- Monitors compare monthly reports and bank statements
- Insurance coverage from Family and Children's Association
- Oversight from Family and Children's Association
Senior Financial Counseling and HIICAP Programs are made possible with funding from the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs through the New York State Office of the Aging and the U.S. Administration on Aging. The Bill Payer Program is supported by the Greentree Manhasset Good Neighbor Fund. C.H.E.C.K., The Reverse Mortgage Program is certified by HUD.
